4 Ways to Find your Purpose in Quarantine

Oh my gosh, I have to share something magical from Saturday night, I am on an absolute high and I was bursting to get it down here to tell you as you were on my mind when I realised this.

My husband and I decided to get our decks out and create a virtual rave for everyone we know across the globe (he’s from US and I’m from UK). We love DJing, playing music and thought this is what we can do for our friends and family who are stuck in isolation/quarantine.

We did it for our own pleasure but wanted to be there for anyone feeling lonely, in need of dancing and entertainment, and just add some shiney fun to these days.

We were blown away by the response we had from people and how many joined us on our Live Youtube stream. We had people chatting together from our families, friends, work and friends of friends all over the world, all enjoying our music for 2 hours.

His parents were dancing, people not feeling well in total isolation had company, nieces and nephews joined from a mountain in Colorado, people who have kids that can’t normally get out were able to join in - it was incredible and so enjoyable.

It felt absolutely amazing to bring people together and have a great time whilst we were having a great time - that's when it hit me and reminded me - THIS IS WHAT TRULY LIGHTS ME UP.

Why am I telling you this??

This for me is absolutely linked to clues in our purpose, passions and what we can do in this world. I'm not saying I'm going to change my career to become a DJ, I'm saying what I know I need in my life is a way of creating the space to bring people together and bring them joy.

If you are out there looking for 'that thing', the work that will light you up, the underpinning purpose you can bring to this world - THE THING that is your contribution in this crazy time right now...this is what I would say to you:

  1. Really pay attention to what lights you up no matter whether its work or outside of work. Questions to ask yourself: What have you been doing to keep yourself occupied in these days of quarantine? How have you found yourself being creative - whether it's cooking, something you've come up with to keep your kids occupied, the virtual classes you've been interested in joining, have you been doing things in your garden, interested in learning something new, what have you been reading about on social media (except for news)?
  2. What we created was possible before quarantine but we didn’t do it. The opportunity to create an experience that normally none of us would’ve got our of the comfort of our own homes just opened up because of forced circumstances. Question to ask yourself - What have you noticed that's new for you that you want to continue once we are back to 'normal life'?
  3. There’s always a way- I've seen Jimmy Fallon create a live music band and sing as if they were altogether. I've been on a call with 500 people learning to sing one song. I've seen someone in London getting everyone out their front doors to exercise on the street (with distancing). Question to ask yourself: what are you missing right now that could achievable right now just in a slightly different way?
  4. Sometimes in times of sadness you really can bring some light into this world no matter how you do it, just follow your heart. Question to ask yourself: what's one thing you could do to bring someone a smile today?
